Usher Convention

 Usher Convention

Ushers

 Ushers' Union
Fourth Saturday in April

Ushers' Convention
Last 5th Saturday in Year

President - Deacon Billy Tucker

Doorkeepers in the Temple of Jerusalem were a class of the priesthood, hold their office by virtue of lineage to the house of Aaron. To this day, we consider the Church usher to be a very select person because he helps in a most essential way, to make the service of worship an experience of great spiritual significance.

The word Usher means, literally "doorkeeper"
and suggest the familiar verse from Psalm

Brief History

The year 1970 was a significant period for the ushers of the Western Assembly. Rev. C. J. Williams asked that all the ushers come together and be united. This call was answered by a few churches. This cause as all good causes are, was criticized by some, but when God has ordained a plan, nothing can stop it. The founder, Bishop C. J. Williams perceives this auxiliary to be one among the most vital to the Assembly.

In May 1970, a few churches met at the Educational Building, Four Oaks and made plans to unite all Ushers of the Western Assembly. At this meeting, officers were elected. Our first President was Deacon Bowden Williams of White Oak Disciple Church; Vice President was Deacon Henry Chisholm of Juniper Grove Disciple Church; Secretary was Sister Hattie W. Dublin of Hickory Grove Disciple Church; Assistant Secretary, Sister Jean Baggett of Piney Green Disciple Church; Treasuer was Deacon Elbert Rose of Long Branch Disciple Church. Other officers were added as needed.
